Part 15 of 16Seven Lamps Before the Throne
Sword of the Spirit
The flaming sword that turns every way, the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God, and the way to eternal life through Jesus Christ.
About this episode
Part 15 turns to the mysterious guardian stationed beside the Tree of Life in Genesis: the flaming sword that turns every way.
The Tree of Life represents life through the Spirit; the fiery sword represents the truth of God’s Word. Together these images point to a central message of the Gospel — we come to the Father through Jesus Christ and receive new spiritual life through the Spirit. “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).
The episode traces the flaming sword through the Sword of the Spirit in Ephesians 6, the Word made flesh in John 1, and the tongues of fire at Pentecost. It then moves from judgment to hope: the Book of Life, the resurrection, the Great White Throne and the second death — and the free offer of salvation to all who confess Jesus as Lord and call upon His name (Romans 10).
